Design

Practical Features

Let’s skip the debate about exterior looks because everyone has their own taste, and you can easily spot the design differences in photos. What really matters is how these SUVs work for you in real life. When it comes to practicality, Ford’s attention to detail pulls ahead.

One of the awesome features on the 2025 Ford Expedition is the Multi-Function Ford Split Gate, which has powered upper and lower halves that you can configure to fit larger items like kayaks, lumber, or anything awkward to load. Add to that the Cargo Tailgate Manager, which triples as a backrest, shelf, or table. And when the sun goes down, the 360-Degree Zone Lighting shines from the front, sides, and back of the Expedition, so you can still spend time with your loved ones after dark.

In comparison, the 2025 GMC Yukon’s available AutoSense Power Liftgate lets you open the tailgate hands-free by walking up with the key fob. Sure, it’s handy, but compared to the Expedition’s lineup of thoughtful features, it feels like just the starting point.

Cargo Volume

Both the 2025 Ford Expedition and GMC Yukon come in two sizes: a standard wheelbase and an extended version that’s about 30 cm longer. So, if you need more room for road trips or family luggage, both give you the option to size up. Overall volume-wise, they’re pretty close but the Expedition Max is especially well-optimized to make the most of that extra space. With all the rear seats folded, you get up to 3,486 litres of space behind the first row. Leave the second row up, and you still have 2,393 litres, and even with all three rows in place, there’s 1,060 litres behind the third row.

Performance

Engine Specs

Both the 2025 Ford Expedition and GMC Yukon offer a range of engine options, but if you’re looking for a mix of power and efficiency, Ford gives you more muscle where it counts. The Expedition lets you choose between two versions of its proven 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine. The standard version cranks out 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque, thanks to direct injection and twin turbochargers. Or, opt for the High-Output EcoBoost V6 that delivers 440 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque, which makes it the most powerful option between the two brands.

GMC gives you three engine choices: a 5.3L V8, a 6.2L V8, and a 3.0L Duramax diesel. The top performer is the 6.2L V8, but even though it tops out at 420 horsepower, its 460 lb-ft of torque doesn’t come close to Ford’s numbers. And though V8s sound great, they’re not exactly known for fuel efficiency, especially when you’re hauling.

Towing Capacity

Another number to look at is towing capacity. If you’re planning to haul a boat, camper, or utility trailer, this is where the 2025 Ford Expedition really shows up strong. With the standard Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package, the Expedition can tow up to 4,355 kg (9,600 lbs). The GMC Yukon puts up decent numbers too, with a max towing capacity of 3,720 kg (8,200 lbs). Not bad, but still a step behind if towing is something you do often.

Technology

In the current automotive market, tech is no longer just a nice bonus; instead, it’s a must have. If a vehicle doesn’t keep up with modern features, it’s quickly left behind. Both the 2025 Ford Expedition and 2025 GMC Yukon show up with a list of advanced technology that helps with convenience, comfort, and safety. A great example is hands-free highway driving. Ford offers BlueCruise, and GMC counters with Super Cruise. Both systems let you take your hands off the wheel on certain mapped highways, but BlueCruise is available on more Expedition trims and continues to improve through over-the-air updates.
